Exercise is Medicine​

This is a medically supervised exercise program that also provides education and guidance on nutrition, biometrics & vitals, and healthy lifestyle choices. The goal of the program is to help individuals improve their blood pressure, resting heart rate and improve other vitals so they can sleep better, live longer and have more energy to do the things they want.

Our method is simple, we monitor your vitals throughout your exercise program to ensure your safety and we progress you slowly and properly toward your goals. Whether you are joining to lose weight, strengthen your heart, or manage your blood sugars, your team of Registered Kinesiologist’s will work with you to tailor a program that fits your life and needs.

Upon completion of the program, the ultimate goal is to lower the likelihood of future cardiovascular problems or related problems. Many people who’ve participated in this program will attest that looking and feeling better physically and emotionally provides greater control over your health.

We coach you to develop lifestyle changes

Our program generally spans three months or 12 weeks, three times a week for a total of 36 sessions.

The program typically includes a combination of:

  • Supervised medical exercise training with a Registered Kinesiologist to improve cardiovascular and muscular fitness - an assessment will be done to tailor the program to your fitness level. The type and intensity of physical activity recommended will depend on the severity of your pre-existing condition(s).
  • Nutritional Counselling by a Registered Dietitian to understand your current dietary needs, create sustainable lifestyle modifications and improve your biometrics.
  • Education on how to understand and read your own biometrics and vitals, manage your personal risk factors, understanding your body's metabolism, manage your stress and improve sleep habits.

Your exercise routine will include both aerobic exercise (to get your heart rate up) and muscle strengthening activities that may include resistance training. Your personalized program will be based on your age and existing or co-existing medical conditions.

The frequency and duration of various exercises will differ for each participant to some degree.

With the direction of your physician, your team will work with you to choose the best exercises and help you with a workable & effective exercise program

Prevention can be either primary (before a cardiovascular event), or secondary (after a cardiovascular event). Regardless, this program can provide significant lifestyle changes that could improve both quality of life, and longevity, in our participants.

Four Pillars of Prevention

EXERCISE

Preventing and managing chronic conditions must start with a commitment to a daily exercise routine. Everyone knows the benefits of exercise but it is the commitment, accountability and expert guidance needed to achieve this. Canadian guidelines recommend 150 minutes of Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity a week to improve health outcomes. Through REJUV and their Registered Kinesiologists, you will reach these numbers of physical activity and more. As your activity increases, your endurance and strength will improve over time, enabling a significant reduction in health risks.

NUTRITION

Exercise and Nutrition go hand in hand. To properly make lifestyle changes you need someone to help guide you to make proper choices on the food you eat on a daily basis. How food is metabolized by each individual person is now understood by Dieticians and this knowledge will help our Registered Dietitians coach you towards an ideal weight and body-mass-index. As your diet improves, your energy levels and weight will improve over time, enabling a significant reduction in health risks.

MINDFULNESS

Mindfulness and Meditation is an excellent daily routine as an adjunct to exercise and nutrition. The practice of de-stressing is both an art and a science where you will discover enhanced personal confidence and a paradigm shift in your self-esteem. Stress management is becoming more and more important today as Mental Health grows in Canada. Learning how to de-stress and control your emotions and feelings is an important aspect not only for your mental health but plays a role in your physical health when trying to lose weight.

EDUCATION

By the end of the program you will be educated on yourself. You will learn how best to take care of your body. From learning about your specific biometrics, controlling blood sugars, improve heart function or maintain weight, this program is designed to having an everlasting effect on how you take care of yourself. You will have the Confidence and understanding about how your body works to maintain your quality of life as you age.

Spencer is a Healthcare Entrepreneur who has worked as a Registered Kinesiologist in the Rehabilitation, Healthcare and Fitness Industry. Spencer joins the team with numerous clinical and business experiences in building exercise programs and systems for companies to ensure sustainable outcomes. His main focus at AMG is to develop and lead the ReJuv program while managing the Advanced Fitness Center. He is passionate about helping individuals develop healthy lifestyle behaviors changes to prevent/manage chronic diseases as well as move better, decrease pain and increase overall function and strength to do the things you want to do. Spencer hopes to develop the ReJuv program to help the citizens of London, Ontario create healthy behavior changes like Exercise, Nutrition, and Stress Management to feel stronger, healthier and confident in their everyday life.  

Prior to working at AMG, Spencer has worked with many different clinical and special populations at CBI Health Centre, Lifemark Health Group, and the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario. With experience in a clinical and non-clinical setting, Spencer has developed the tools and skills to help his clients attain their goals of health and wellness, pain and performance, or healthy lifestyle.

In addition to his work at AMG, Spencer mentors Kinesiology students who are looking to write the Registered Kinesiology Exam in Ontario and is the host of a podcast called, Making Kinnections, that interviews other Registered Kinesiologists in Ontario and discusses the profession of Kinesiology. In his spare time, Spencer enjoys playing soccer, tennis, kayaking, running and spending time with family.
